Men's soccer team looking ahead to big weekend

After another grueling Region III battle against Bryant & Stratton last Saturday, the MCC men's soccer team will look to extend its season this weekend at the Northeast District tournament at Dean College in Franklin, Mass.

The Tribunes advanced to districts after a thrilling Region III championship, this time a 1-0 victory over Stratton.  Jeff Ford (Hilton, NY/Hilton) scored the game-winner in the 77th minute and Tim Knight (Greece, NY/Greece Olympia) preserved the shutout with a save on a direct kick with 10 seconds remaining.

Awaiting Monroe (12-2-2) in the semifinals is Globe Institute out of New York City. Globe is 11-3-3 on the season and boasts two players - Damien Blackwood and Quincy Small - who combined for 33 goals on the year. The game will be at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The other semifinal pits Massasoit CC against Mercer County CC.  The championship game will be at 11 a.m. on Sunday.  Monroe is familiar with both opponents, having defeated Massasoit and been defeated by Mercer already this season.
