Women's basketball team perfect in Florida

The MCC women's basketball team hadn't played a game in almost a month as it headed to Miami for a tournament this past weekend.  Apparently the long layoff wasn't a concern.

The Tribunes went 4-0 over the weekend, including a pair of victories on Sunday, at the Miami Dade College Shark Shootout. The wins improved Monroe's record to 8-1 on the season.

MCC opened up with a 56-49 win over Seminole CC on Friday. The Tribunes followed with an 80-62 win against Indian River CC on Saturday and defeated Kennedy-King CC (111-32) and Miami Dade (70-51) on Sunday.  It was the second time this season MCC has won two games in one day.

Trenise Fuller (Queens, NY/Francis Lewis) had the hot hand against Indian River, tallying a career-high 31 points, 14 rebounds, and seven blocks.  Neiocha Watts (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) had 13 points, while Dawn Coleman (Queens, NY/Francis Lewis) added 12 points and seven rebounds. Tiffany Wilson (Rochester, NY/East High) had 11 assists.

MCC opened up a 59-16 halftime lead against Kennedy-King and never looked back on Sunday.  Coleman led the way with 19 points, while Andrea Ibezim (Mt. Vernon, NY/Mt. Vernon) had 14 and Kasonna Samms (Massapequa, NY/St. John the Baptist) and Frances Lyons (Brooklyn, NY/Madison) had 13 apiece.

Fuller chipped in with a dozen points, while Kristina Rosario (Atlantic City, NJ/Absegami) had eight points and 14 rebounds. Watts dished out 11 assists.

MCC was led by Tasha Cannon's (Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) 14 points in the win over Miami Dade.  Coleman added 13 points and Lynnise Nixon (Philadelphia, PA/Frankfort) had 11.
