MCC and Social Media

What is social media?

It’s where people are talking, participating, sharing, networking and bookmarking content online. It's a two-or-more-way conversation and the formation of communities. Actively participating in a social media experience encourages discussion, feedback, comments, and sharing of information among interested parties. Examples include:

Social networks: Facebook, NING, LinkedIn, Twitter
Social news: Digg, Sphinn, Newsvine
Social sharing: Flickr, YouTube, Slideshare
Social bookmarking: Delicious, StumbleUpon, BlogMarks
Blogs

The College has embarked on a social media planning process to enhance the communication networks within our communities. An important step in that process is to hear from MCC departments and programs regarding how they envision using social media in their operations. Whether your ideas are well-developed or just a sliver of an idea, we want to hear from you.

Tell us how you see your department/program using social media. (Or just tell us if you think social media might be valuable, but you don’t know enough about it.)

If you are already using social media in your operation, we’d like to hear what you are doing, your assessment of its effectiveness, your successes and your challenges. (We’d like to learn from what others are already doing.)

If you have suggestions for us, we’d love to hear them. Ideas on what to do, what not to do, or ways that we can support departments/programs are especially helpful.

Send your thoughts to <mailto:marcom@monroecc.edu>.
