Sustainable Water Fountains

Have you seen the drinking fountain on the 3rd floor of the Spina Administration Building? The old fountain was replaced two months ago by a version that allows for easy refill of water bottles. Refilling in this manner will save thousands of dollars for our community in both the cost of bottles, costs of shipping, and recycling of discarded bottles. The fountain also calculates the savings in numbers of bottles saved –451 bottles so far. And that savings is important. According to Practically Green, in 2007, more than 200 billion liters of bottled water were sold worldwide. Unfortunately 80% of them were not recycled creating a significant liter problem. In addition, using a water fountain saves you money! The cost of a $4 water bottle refilled even once per day for one week will save you an average of $10 per week or more.

According to a Facilities source, this fountain type will be the replacement for all water fountains on campus as the existing ones become inoperable. See Margaret Whelehan demonstrating how easy it is to be conscious of our resources.
