Wild West-themed Gala Brings Big Bucks to MCC

The Monroe Community College Foundation’s 11th annual Gold Star Gala, An Evening at the Gold Star Saloon Presented by M&T Bank, on May 16 at the Country Club of Rochester netted over $80,000 to support student scholarships, faculty innovation and educational excellence at MCC. Thanks to the generosity of 180 guests -- including alumni and community leaders -- proceeds from the event increased by 23 percent over last year and a new record was set by event underwriters.

Guests were greeted by elaborate western displays and MCC students performing as legendary figures Mae West, Black Bart and Annie Oakley. Following western-themed hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction and an extensive dinner buffet, auctioneer Howie Jacobson (Dixon Schwabl) encouraged guests to bid on exclusive vacation and golf trips, luxury items, local entertainment packages and named scholarships.

M&T Bank was the lead underwriter of the event for the fourth consecutive year. Jonathan J. Judge (Paychex, Inc.) served as honorary chair; MCC alumni Kathleen E. Pavelka ’79 (Telecomp, Inc.) and John T. Smith ’71 (Brite Computers) served as event chairs.

The MCC Foundation will host its 25th annual Scholarship Open golf tournament at Monroe Golf Club on July 13. Proceeds also support student scholarships and educational excellence at MCC. For foursome reservations or sponsorship information, please call x1500.
