Native American Lecture in Library


The Leroy V. Good Library (Brighton Campus) is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a lecture Friday, February 29, 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. E. Jethro Gaede, Instructor of Anthropology/History/Political Science/Sociology, will present his paper "The Art of Persuasion: Using Images for Marketing Plains Indian Culture to White Audiences at the American Indian Exposition, Anadarko, OK 1932-2006." The lecture will be held on the fourth floor of the library, outside of room 2-452.

Professor Gaede has taught at Monroe Community College since 2006. He holds a B.F.A. from the Maryland Institute College of Art, and an M.L.S. from Syracuse University. He earned his M.A. in Anthropology and is presently finishing work on his Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma. Professor. Gaede teaches General and Cultural Anthropology, a course on the Anthropology of Tourism as well as ANT 201 Native American Peoples and Cultures. He is a scholar of Native American ethnology, expressive culture and history. His lecture will examine the use of Native Americans as commodities within the context of the larger White culture.
