New Student Orientation – Call for Faculty

Reminder, faculty have an opportunity to be involved in New Student Orientation.  Here is a chance for you to interface with new students and help them transition to MCC!  Faculty participation in Orientation includes a 15 minute class simulation and a 45 minute academic expectations session.  Faculty are also invited to have lunch with students and their guests on the day Orientation dates (11:30-12:15) and dinner on the evening Orientation dates (4:30-5:30).

A faculty sub-committee has revised a PowerPoint presentation used during last year’s Orientation to help guide the facilitation of the academic expectations session.  The classroom simulation will be a 15 minute session in your discipline, and you choose the delivery – it could be a group activity, a mini interactive lecture, or anything you would normally do in your class to excite and engage students!

Orientation sessions have been divided by Schools.  We are looking for volunteers from your respective programs to present on the dates relevant to your School.  There are TWO Sessions open to ALL SCHOOLS scheduled for late August and early September (faculty from all schools are invited to participate). Please see the attached New Student Orientation schedule.

Participating faculty will be paid (2 hours per session) through the Title III grant at a rate based on rank for all the sessions except the two occurring in September. We have spots for 8-15 faculty for each session.  Please indicate your interest in participating and the date(s) you are available to the Title III Project Secretary, Carol Wilkinson <mailto:cwilkinson@monroecc.edu>  by the end of May.  Faculty can express interest in any session, however, when preparing the schedules priority will be given to faculty in the Schools involved.  Schedule confirmations will be sent the first full week in June.

Faculty interested in participating in New Student Orientation at DCC should contact Lisa Ekiert <mailto:lekiert1@monroecc.edu> .

Thank you for supporting Orientation and helping to welcome new MCC students!
