MCC Women Take the “Polar Bear Plunge,” Win Trophy

Several hundred women, including at least a dozen from MCC participated in the “What Women Really Want Adventure Weekend” on Jan. 20 and 21 at the Lodge at Woodcliff in Perinton. The event, produced by Patti Ronsvalle, from Big Kid Productions and an adjunct in the Department of Health and Physical Education, will partially benefit the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester. The event was covered in the Jan. 21 Democrat and Chronicle.

The event featured a retailers’ show and sale, a fashion show, personal care services, entertainment, health and wellness educational seminars and food. MCC faculty members from the Department of Health and Physical Education (H&PE) voluntarily offered seminars on topics such as tai chi, yoga, creative expression and stress management, creative movement and stress management, meditation, women and stress and journaling, and chair massage.

A team of women faculty and staff from MCC also participated in the Polar Bear Plunge in Woodcliff’s outdoor pool on Saturday and raised $2,660 to support breast cancer research. Team members included Karen Cardillo (H&PE), Janet Dalke (H&PE), Deneen Rhode (H&PE), Anne Flatley (H&PE), Yolanda Johnson (Campus Events), Courtney Belluccio (Campus Events), Julianna Frisch (Campus Events) and Suzanne El Rayess (ESOL and Foreign Languages). Thanks to the generosity of students, faculty and staff, the MCC team of BRRRRAVE women earned a pink trophy for raising the most money.
