Gala Creates New Scholarships, Features Stardust Lounge Theme

During the 2010-2011 academic year, 4,587 students applied for scholarships to attend Monroe Community College; 547 received them. With 68 percent of MCC students relying on financial aid to attend college, the Monroe Community College Foundation has made funding student scholarships its primary focus. To raise support, the Foundation will host its 14th annual Gold Star Gala, A Night at the Stardust Lounge presented by M&T Bank, on Saturday evening, April 28 at Monroe Golf Club, 155 Golf Ave., Pittsford.

This “cool, classy and can’t miss event” will feature gourmet cuisine, fine wines and cocktails, and decadent desserts within a Las Vegas club atmosphere. MCC’s own “Rat Pack” of MCC Foundation directors and volunteers, including MCC President Anne M. Kress, will perform during the reception. Following dinner and the silent auction, Dixon Schwabl Managing Partner and five-time Gala Auctioneer Howie Jacobson will entice guests with a variety of luxury auction items, including a Yankees-Red Sox baseball package, weekend getaways close to home or to Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, as well as a jewelry sweepstakes featuring Judith Ripka couture earrings donated by Cornell’s Jewelers. The event culminates with dancing to live music performed by the local band Lake Effect.

Ann Wallace (Providium) and Ed Pettinella (Home Properties, Inc.) are honorary co-chairs of the event. MCC alumna Mary Kay Parrone ’94 (Highland Hospital) and MCC Foundation Director Ed Parrone (Parrone Engineering) are dinner co-chairs.

Event underwriters include M&T Bank, Dixon Schwabl, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, Ed Pettinella and Ann Wallace, The DiMarco Group, M/E Engineering/Parrone Engineering/SWBR Architects, The Pike Company, Canandaigua National Bank and Trust, Konar Properties, Marc Iacona, John Smith, and J. Christine Wilson and Mary K. Collins.

Tickets are $200 per person. Underwriting opportunities are available. Please call the MCC Foundation at (585) 262.1500 or visit "https://www.monroecc.edu" for tickets and information.
