Join us for the new Veterans Reading and Discussion group as we explore the challenges and opportunities veterans face while transitioning from active duty to civilian life. The goal of this program is to connect veterans and those who support them for shared reflection on their service and the post combat transition. The starting point for each discussion is a short piece of literature from a new anthology called "Standing Down: From Warrior to Civilian," which was designed for this purpose. The themes which will be discussed are combat, caretaking, homecoming, and honor and memorializing. This initiative will provide a forum for veteran students to reflect on their experience of serving while receiving support from others who may have had similar experiences.
A grant from the New York Council for the Humanities makes this series possible and we are excited to offer it at both the Brighton and Damon campuses! This program has already taken place at Veterans Outreach Centers and has received support from the Wounded Warrior Project and the Veterans Upward Bound program. Interested students, faculty and staff are encouraged to participate!
