Critical Construction Update - Power and Chilled Water Outage This Saturday

There will be two outages this weekend to perform construction work.

Outage 1 – Chilled water.

The water for the air conditioning system will be shut down from Friday 6/1 at 10p.m. to Sunday night. The system should be restarted by Monday morning in time for classes and office occupancy. The cooler forecast for the weekend should make this an easy one. Air handler systems will remain on to provide air circulation.

Outage 2 – Electricity.

The electricians need to verify dimensions of some of the equipment and need it powered down to do so. As a result, we will be shutting power off to the majority of campus on Saturday morning from 6am to 7 am. Buildings 8, 9, 10 and the residence halls will not be affected. Emergency generators will supply power to the normal emergency loads across campus.  The power outage should be brief enough that refrigerators, freezers, etc should not be affected. If you have a critical need for electricity on Saturday morning, please let us know in Facilities.

The overall project is proceeding well, with the temporary air conditioners running hard, and demolition well under way. The new air handlers have arrived and installation will begin on Monday.  So far, so good.
