Passing of Eric Johannisson, Archives & Records Management Retiree

I am sad to inform the College community that Eric Johannisson, retired Archives and Records Management analyst, passed away on Monday, November 13.

Eric began his MCC career in 2001 as records analyst in the ETS Libraries' Archives and Management and was promoted to records management analyst in 2009. During his tenure, he oversaw the management and archiving of records vital to key College activities and departments, including managing the daily operations of the Damon City Campus Records Management Center. His methodical approach in selecting, organizing and storing items and materials in the College's archives earned him praises. He not only ensured best practices in these areas were followed across the College but broadened the role of Archives and Records Management at MCC.

Eric was well known throughout the College as the person to turn to when researching MCC history. He had a thorough knowledge of MCC's past and if he didn't have the answer right away, he knew where to find it. This led to his numerous contributions to College and MCC Foundation publications and newsletters focusing on MCC history. For example, he wrote the narrative for the permanent Samuel J. Stabins display located in the Bausch & Lomb lobby of the Flynn Campus Center. Most recently he contributed information to Historic Brighton for its newsletter highlighting the history of the College in the town of Brighton.

Eric's unique sense of humor brightened the day of many of his colleagues. He could always find humor in the day-to-day activities of his colleagues and many friends across the College. He interacted with many in his Records Management role, educating all on the intricacies of academic records and retention schedules. He played a key role in organizing the Records Management office for its move to the new Downtown Campus.

Eric retired in 2016 after 15 years of service. He will be sorely missed by his many friends and colleagues at MCC.

Calling hours are from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, November 18, at Vay-Schleich & Meeson-Greece Chapel, 1075 Long Pond Road, followed by a memorial service.

Contributions may be made in Eric's memory to the Wilmot Cancer Center, 601 Elmwood Ave., P.O. Box 704, Rochester, NY 14624.
