Parts of Monroe County Designated a COVID-19 Orange Warning Zone

Yesterday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that parts of Rochester, Brighton, Gates, Greece, Irondequoit and Pittsford are moving to Orange Warning Zone* status tomorrow, Nov. 25 due to an increase in positive COVID-19 cases. Orange zone restrictions will go into effect on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26 for schools within specific geographic areas (map). Other parts of Monroe County remain in a Yellow Precautionary Zone.

MCC administrators are working with state and local officials to determine the exact impact, if any, on MCC.

We do know the following:

  • MCC is doing its part to keep our community safe.
  • There are no classes tomorrow Nov. 25; MCC will be open.
  • Thanksgiving Recess is Nov. 26-29; MCC will be closed.
  • Following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance for a safe Thanksgiving will also help our community stop the spread of COVID-19.
  • You will be notified of additional details--including the status of in-person classes and pooled testing sessions scheduled for the week of Nov. 30--via email as soon as they become available.
  • Updates will be posted on MCC's Return to Campus web pages.

Send your questions and concerns to covid19response@monroecc.edu.

*In general, when an area reaches Orange Warning Zone status, the following restrictions apply for at least two weeks unless otherwise noted:

  • Indoor dining and bar service are banned. Restaurants can offer outdoor dining, with a four-person maximum per table.
  • High-risk businesses such as gyms and nail salons must close.
  • Worship services are limited to 33% capacity, with a maximum of 25 people.
  • Mass gatherings are limited to 10 people either indoors or outdoors.
  • Public and private schools must end in-person classes and offer remote learning in order to disinfect and deep clean. Schools may be able to reopen Monday, Nov. 30 if all students and staff undergo COVID-19 testing.
