Dr. Maria Brandt honored with the 2012 Dr. Wesley T. Hanson Award for Teaching Excellence

Please join the Faculty Senate in congratulating Dr. Maria Brandt of the English/Philosophy Department. She has been awarded the 2012 Dr. Wesley T. Hanson Award for Teaching Excellence. This is the most prestigious teaching award granted by Monroe Community College. After joining MCC in 2003, Dr. Brandt has proven to be a challenging and inspiring teacher, both in the rigor of the work she demands and the detailed guidance she provides, both in and out of the classroom. She sets high standards, and then gives freely of her knowledge and time to help students attain those standards. To quote from one of Dr. Brandt’s classroom evaluations, “ Professor Brandt adopts a variety of styles as a teacher. Depending on the particular classroom segment, she is an energetic and supportive writing coach, an insightful reader of literature, or a skilled leader of discussion…in this class, Professor Brandt illustrated some of the most effective pedagogical strategies, and she used them with grace and ease.”

Beyond skill and preparation, Maria Brandt has a passion for both her profession and the material she teaches. Again, please take a moment to congratulate this wonderful teacher!
