The Presidential Volunteer Service Award was created to recognize and honor Americans who are engaged in their communities by way of voluntary service. It is awarded by the President of the United States and the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation to individuals, families, and groups that are committed to community service.
Award recipients receive:
* An Official President’s Volunteer Service Award lapel pin
* A personalized certificate of achievement
*A congratulatory letter from the President of the United States
The lapel pins can be bronze, silver or gold – depending on the number of hours served with Bronze starting at 100 hours, Silver at 250 hours and Gold at 500 hours.
35 MCC students earned a Presidential Volunteer Award for a total of 7,500 volunteer hours. Students served the community through their Service-Learning hours for tutoring, mentoring and serving their internships or fieldwork in the Rochester community. In addition many of the students served more than their Service-Learning required hours and also volunteered at other areas in the community. These students will be honored at the 30th Annual Awards Banquet next month.
