Audioconference "Preparing Faculty to Teach Online"

Presenter: Dr. Ruby Evans, University of Central Florida

ETS and the Distance Learning Committee invite you to join the Instructional Technology Council in the audioconference "Preparing Faculty to Teach Online." The University of Central Florida (UCF), Orlando, has received national recognition for its course, Advanced Distributed Learning, ADL5000, which enrolls UCF faculty as "students," and uses the same asynchronous online environment they will use to teach their distance learning students. An instructional designer or "facilitator" from the office of course development and Web services (CDWS) provides the training. The program components include online and face-to-face training. Faculty participants complete course modules to learn about UCF's online course development process and collaborate with peers and facilitators using distributed learning technologies. Course outcomes include an understanding of the rationale for teaching online, customized Web pages, instructional design, and administrative strategies for course management. Dr. Evans participated in ADL5000 in Summer 2002 to teach two online courses at UCF in Fall 2002. The presentation highlights lessons learned, implications for practice, and provides information for faculty and administration alike.
