Did You Know ...?

MCC is in the process of achieving reaccreditation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Led by Community College of Allegheny County President Dr. Quintin Bullock (formerly DCC executive dean), evaluation team members will visit MCC March 13-16 to follow up on MCC’s self-study report and assess MCC’s compliance with accreditation standards.

When the Middle States team visits, they will engage in conversations (scheduled or through chance encounters) with any number of individuals across campus about MCC. Our weekly “Did You Know” column aims to help you better understand MCC’s reaccreditation process and to become more aware of the contents of the self-study report. To read MCC’s self-study report, visit the Middle States at MCC webpages.

Did you know…each unit of the Student Services Division is undergoing a standardized assessment that is being performed by SSMIT – Student Services Mid Management InitiativeTeam?

Student Services unit assessment occurs on a three-year continuous cycle. SSMIT is performing this assessment using national standards created by the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) to evaluate services being offered to support student success. Four units within the Student Services Division were assessed in 2015 and four more units are currently undergoing assessment. The results from the first cycle were used to make changes and improve effectiveness.

Did you know ...among MCC’s many award-winning faculty are a United States Professor of the Year, two SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professors, and one SUNY Distinguished Service Professor?

MCC assigns primary responsibility for developing, delivering, and assuring the quality of the curriculum to faculty and other qualified professionals.  In fact, a special part of the College’s commitment to teaching and learning lies in how MCC recognizes and celebrates faculty achievements in teaching, service, research and scholarship. This is evidenced in the numerous awards and accolades received by faculty. In addition to those listed above, many current MCC faculty hold SUNY Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence, including 22 for Teaching, three for Scholarship and Creative Activities, four for Librarianship, three for Faculty Service, and 19 for Professional Service. Awards granted internally include 18 teaching awards, ten professional service awards, two emerging excellence awards, and four President’s Awards. Faculty achievement is further evidenced by the number and frequency of faculty and professional staff who serve as content experts, conference presenters, elected or appointed members of professional organizations, and are published authors and researchers.
