Spotlight on the MCC Association

As a member of the MCC community, you've probably heard of the MCC Association. You might know that we offer financial and management support for many of the student services at the College. This support is vital, of course, but it's not always easy to see or to understand what that support actually looks like. Allow us to shine a light on some of the different areas of the Association and how they are working to support the Staff, Faculty, and Students at MCC right now.

The Child Care Center
The Richard M. Guon Child Care Center remains open and is caring for approximately 5-11 children every day. We are providing child care for parents who are performing essential services, like nursing and social work, during the pandemic. We're also helping MCC students by providing child care so that they can focus on their classes.
We are taking temperatures of everyone upon entry. The children think it's fun to see their parents get their temperature taken. Some of our team members are at home right now, but that doesn't stop them from supporting our students! Teachers are e-mailing, calling, and sending letters and activities for all our regular children to do at home. We've mailed out packets of books to 30 RCSD EPK/UPK children and received pictures of them reading their new books! We are also sending home boxes with art materials for our other families. Thank you to SODEXO Kitchen Supervisor Tracey Paul and the rest of the SODEXO Management Team for helping us continue to feed our kiddos in the center every day.

Bookstore:
The Bookstore is helping to make sure the students have all the course materials for their courses. We are first checking to see if those course materials are available for free. If they're not available, we are physically going to the Bookstore, processing their orders, and shipping them out. The role of the Bookstore team has shifted a little during this time; some of us are helping out at Housing and Residence Life, some are spending a lot of time on communication and customer service with students and faculty alike. We were also recently able to donate some food to the Residence Halls. We're really embracing this opportunity to support our students in every way possible.

Housing and Residence Life
Housing and Residence Life is still housing 150 students through the pandemic.
We continue to use our food pantry to assist students experiencing food insecurity and to supply many students with hygiene products. Additionally, our staff have been working to set up online success coaches for the students who remain in the residence halls. We've also been working together to move all of our students into Canal Hall in the interest of their safety and security. We're proud of our resident community here, particularly our professional staff and student RAs.

Dining Services
SODEXO Chef Bob DeRoma and the SODEXO Management Team have been providing MCC's remaining residence students with hot and cold food and will continue to do so throughout the pandemic. Every day at 1:00 PM we deliver lunch, snacks, and other items that can be reheated by the residents. We also continue to feed the Child Care Center, providing them with breakfast, lunch, and snacks.

These are just a few of the ways the Association is working extra hard to support our community during this difficult time. There's so much more going on here behind the scenes and we look forward to continuing to bring you the consistent care and dedication that we always have--on the frontlines of Dining Services and behind the scenes in the Business Office.

Thank you for being a part of this community with us.
