Students Present Research at Regional Honors Conference


Ten student members of the Honors Institute attended the Northeast Regional Honors Conference on April 4-7, 2013, in Philadelphia, PA. The conference brought together honors program students from over 50 colleges and universities in the northeast. Seven MCC students had papers accepted for presentation at the conference:

Jessica Ramirez: “Generational Studies: The Work Environment of The Veterans, The Baby Boomers, Generation X, and The Millennials” (Faculty sponsor, Kathleen Borbee)

Jessica Boothman: “Homelessness” (Faculty sponsor, Dina Giovanelli)

Christopher Morris: “The Thing that makes Bumps in the Night: Why No One is Safe from the Bed Bug Epidemic” (Faculty sponsor, Dina Giovanelli)

Abdullah Ijaz: “The Life Cycle of Plastics” (Faculty sponsor, Maria Savka)

Brian Calmes: “Life, Liberty, and the Conflict of Happiness…” (Faculty sponsor, Scott Rudd)

Chad Gerbig: “The Cult of the Individual and the Decline of Liberty: Cynic Reclamation of Autonomy in Fight Club” (Faculty sponsor, Elizabeth Johnston)

Yanbing Wei: “The Cobweb Dynamics of the Registered Nurses’ Labor Market” (Faculty sponsor, Christopher Inya)

Additionally, three members of the Honors Council student club (Dana Metzger, Jonna Reczek, and Mariya Gunda) attended and participated in best-practices sessions designed to enhance honors activities on campus.
