Downer’s Film Nominated for 2016 Fast Forward Film Festival

Congratulations to Jim Downer for being one of twelve artists selected for presentation at Rochester’s Fast Forward Film Festival. Jim’s work will be screened April 21 at The Little Theatre and again on April 23 at the Festival Gala being held at the George Eastman Museum. Jim is a dedicated member of MCC’s Sustainability Steering Committee and a faculty member of the Visual and Performing Arts Department.

Jim’s film “Compost” is a horizontal exploration of found organics in empty space. Through the symbolism provided by nature’s cycles, this animated short represents continual change through rebirth and decomposition.

The Fast Forward Film Festival encourages films that tap into the local experience and compel audiences to engage with the community and raise environmental awareness. Embracing the short film format, Fast Forward challenges filmmakers to utilize the power of visual storytelling to convey the urgency of our environmental problems and inspire environmental awareness. Shorts are a liberating form that allow for greater experimentation and give voice to both aspiring and veteran filmmakers. By focusing creativity into films under five minutes in length, Fast Forward films become an important communication tool to promote change, connect people and build an environmentally concerned community.
