April is Poetry Month!

Although April is still a few weeks away, the LeRoy V. Good Library has exciting plans in store for a celebration of National Poetry Month, and if you write poetry, you may want to start planning now. We will be creating the Library Poetry Wall (with the help of all you poets out there!) and then hosting Off the Wall: Students Read from the Library Poetry Wall on Wednesday, April 12 at Java’s.

The Poetry Wall will be an actual wall, just inside the main doors to the LeRoy V. Good Library. We will furnish catalog cards at the wall as well as at Java’s and the Writing Center. You may use the blank backs of the cards or incorporate the text of the old catalog cards to create a unique vision of “found poetry.” The only rule is that your poem has to fit on one side of one card. You may then come to the Library to post your card on the wall and have a chance to read all of the other poems!  The wall will be on display all of April, and you may add to it throughout the month; we hope to cover the entire wall with your poetry. Everyone in the college community is encouraged to participate.

Off the Wall: Students Read from the Library Poetry Wall will be held April 12 during College Hour (12:00 pm to 1:00 pm) at Java’s (Bldg. 1, first floor). If you would like to read your poem please either email your name and phone number to Lori Annesi ( "mailto:lannesi@monroecc.edu"lannesi@monroecc.edu) or sign up at the Library Information Desk with the same information. You must notify us of your interest by April 7. Even if you don’t wish to read, please come to the student poetry reading to support all of your friends and to hear some new literary voices while you enjoy one of Java’s delicious specialty beverages.

The Library Poetry Wall project is inspired by the Card Catalog Poetry Project created by poet/librarian Lisa Forrest at Buffalo State College (see https://www.buffalostate.edu/library/ccpp/). Come to the Library to see some of the contributions from that project, loaned to us for display.

If you have any questions, please contact Lori Annesi, Reference/Special Collections Librarian, at "mailto:lannesi@monroecc.edu"lannesi@monroecc.edu.

Now get writing!
