All USA Scholarship


Do you know a student who excels inside and outside the classroom?  If so, this is a wonderful opportunity for them to be rewarded and nominated by Monroe Community College for the ALL USA Academic Team.   Please take a few moments and mention this to a student who you believe meets the criteria below.

ALL USA ACADEMIC TEAM Requirements and Eligibility:

The All-USA Academic Team is sponsored by USA TODAY, the American Association of Community Colleges, and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.  The purpose of this program is to recognize scholarly achievements of students enrolled in community, technical and junior colleges.  For the purpose of this award, “scholar” is defined as one who excels in the classroom; who has the intellectual curiosity to pursue academic, career, and cultural enrichment outside the traditional classroom; who shows evidence of substantial development of talents in academic and technical education; and who has demonstrated an ability to share this development with others.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
•           Currently enrolled at MCC and will be enrolled at least through  December 2008.
•           Must have at least 36 semester (or 48 quarter) college-level credit hours either completed at or transferred to a community college by December 31, 2008, and be on track to complete at least 48 semester (72 quarter) hours by August 31, 2009.
•           Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 out of a possible 4.0 in all college credit coursework completed in the last five years.

BENEFITS:
•           $2,500.00 stipend, commemorative trophy, and a medallion to each First Team member.
•           First Team All New York Academic Team members receive FREE tuition to a SUNY University.

Students may pick up an ALL-USA Academic Team application from Jodi Oriel in the Brighton Campus Center, 3-126 or from Tracey Britton in the Damon Campus Student Services Center, Room 5229 beginning Monday, October 27, 2008.

The application deadline is Monday, November 17, 2008.
