Five named to MCC Foundation Board


The Monroe Community College Foundation recently named five community leaders to its Board of Directors. Jeffrey Cleary, Scott M. Kogler, CPA, Trina Marquez, James R. Smith ’81 and Philip H. Yawman began serving their three-year terms as directors this month.

Cleary, of Irondequoit, is co-founder and managing director of Catalyst Direct, Inc., a full-service, vertically-integrated direct marketing agency based in Rochester. He is a founding member of the American Telemarketing Association and a member of the Direct Marketing Association. He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts. His son currently attends MCC.

As a principal for Davie Kaplan Chapman & Braverman, Kogler, of Spencerport, manages the employee benefits department and is an expert in the field of employee benefits for the full-service accounting and consulting firm. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, New York Society of Certified Public Accountants, Institute of Management Accountants and the Construction Financial Management Association. He is also an active member of the Spencerport Chamber of Commerce and the Rochester Entrepreneurial Society. He earned his B.S. in accounting from Syracuse University.

Marquez, of Penfield, serves the community as the chief technology officer for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. In addition to her service to the MCC Foundation, Marquez is a Girl Scout troop leader and a board member of Sojourner House, a shelter which strives to help women and children reach independence both economically and emotionally. Recently honored with the Rochester Business Journal’s “40 Under 40” award, Marquez holds a B.S. in management information systems from the Rochester Institute of Technology and an M.S. in business/organizational management from Roberts Wesleyan College.

Smith, of Pittsford, is a vice president at Croop-LaFrance and leads the company’s business development initiatives in the information technology services market. He holds a B.S. in marketing from the Rochester Institute of Technology and an A.S. in business administration from MCC.

Yawman, of Penfield, serves as co-founder and executive vice president of corporate development at Choice One Communications. He specializes in strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, corporate communications, real estate and administration. Yawman serves on the Board of Trustees of St. John Fisher College, the Board of Directors of the Rochester Area Community Foundation and is a member of the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration Alumni Advisory Council. He received the Rochester Business Journal’s “40 Under 40” honor in 2000 and holds a B.A. in economics from Hobart College and an M.B.A. from the University of Rochester’s William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration.

The MCC Foundation was established in 1983 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation and secures private support on behalf of the college. Through its ongoing efforts, it provides scholarship assistance, faculty enrichment programs, funding for educational equipment and seed money for innovative programs.
