Help Affect Lives of Rochester Children and Youth

Know someone looking for a life-changing experience? Suggest Rochester AmeriCorps at Monroe Community College. Apply now; interviews for the next one-year term will be conducted on June 8.

Members are placed in a variety of Rochester-area organizations that emphasize initiatives affecting children and youth and will be involved in activities in the areas of youth development, violence prevention, substance abuse education, social development and/or community building and organizing. Members are instrumental in fulfilling the AmeriCorps’ mission of improving public safety in Rochester’s highest need neighborhoods.

In exchange for a full-time, one-year service commitment, AmeriCorps members receive a bi-weekly living allowance, specialized training, individual medical coverage, child care subsidy and loan forbearance. Upon completion of program requirements, members also are eligible to receive an education award of $4,725.

“Applicants who are selected for our program are pro-active community advocates,” said Marilyn Rosche, Rochester AmeriCorps at MCC program director. “Members demonstrate a commitment to provide service, a willingness to use their time and abilities to improve the lives of others, and an interest in learning new skills.”

Members who already have served for a year can reapply for one more year. Rochester AmeriCorps at MCC can fill up to 33 vacancies for the upcoming year, which runs Sept. 11, 2006, through Aug. 26, 2007. To apply or for more information, visit www.RochesterAmeriCorps.org, call the office at 585.262.1778 or stop by MCC’s Damon City Campus, Room 4079, 228 East Main St. in Rochester.
