Foster Parenting Info Session at MCC – Wednesday evening, September 25

A life changing experience –

Just a few years ago, I embarked on an experience that changed my life.  I attended an info session, completed the training to become a foster parent, and became certified as a foster parent.  Both my life and my teaching at MCC have become much richer as a result. Many of our MCC students have experienced foster care, and the training alone brought me greater insight into situations that I would not otherwise have had.  I was very uncertain in the beginning.  I was unsure if I wanted to go to the info session, take the training, or become a certified foster parent, but took it one step at a time.  After attending an info session, I decided to just take the training and then decide.  If I decided not to be open to placements, at least I would have learned much valuable information about foster care.  After the training, we decided to try one placement.  We were able to specify the age range and level of need that we would be willing to take and were reassured that it would be our decision as to whether or not we wanted to take the placement.   I’m very happy that we decided to take that first placement, as we ended up adopting our little girl. However, any level of experience would have enhanced my life and I am very grateful that I decided to take that first step!

If you would like to learn more, I encourage you to attend the info session on campus that is scheduled for Wednesday, September 25, from 7-8pm at MCC in building 12.  To register, call (585) 334-9096 or go to
https://www.monroefostercare.org and register online. I am happy to help bring this event to the college community.
