2020 Holiday Phishing Red Flags

According to Stu Sjouwerman, CEO of KnowBe4, phishing attacks are definitely not slowing down this holiday season.  According to Check Point, the first half of November showed an 80% increase in phishing campaigns relating to sales and shopping special offers.

It's more important than ever for you to be vigilant of any potential suspicious activity. See the attached infographic example of an e-card "from a friend", a very common phishing email type seen around the holidays and the common red flags you should look for in an email like this one.

The red flags to watch out for are:

  • Do you know who the sender is? 
  • Do you normally receive holiday specific emails at work?
  • Is this link reliable? Should I open this attachment?
  • If I hover over the link, is it taking me to a different address?
  • Does the file attachment have a possibly dangerous file extension? 
  • How urgent is this email?
