Heating Ventilation Air-Conditioning Heating up Industry Relations & Real-world Practices

Last Thursday the Heating Ventilation Air-Conditioning (HVAC) Program at MCC hosted a networking event at the Applied Technologies Center on West Henrietta Road for current and prospective students to meet and greet industry partners from an array of HVAC/R sectors. The event saw 18 companies in attendance that gave demonstrations and displayed their areas of expertise. All gave donations to help support the event and even raffled off specialty tools for 76 students that attended the event. Thanks to Elisa Peterson, Juanita Leone, Bob Lasch, Vicki Rocha, Bill Horton and Kevin French for making this event a success for our students.

The HVAC Program has also seen industry partners come in as of late to support current courses like HVA 106 Workplace Training and STT 101 Solar Thermal Technologies. Isaac Heating has shown significant support for the staff and program here at MCC. Eric Knaak the Vice President & General Manager at Isaac Heating and Air Conditioning has been a guest speaker to all students in the workplace training class. In this presentation, he stresses the importance of professionalism in the field, being punctual and understanding what the expectation is working for a company like Isaac entails. Eric has also tapped Dominic DeLeo the Isaac Home Energy Performance Manager to assist with the Solar Thermal program as well. Dominic and his team of experts from the Home Energy Performance division came into STT 101 this past Monday to talk about the importance of green technology and building sciences. After the presentation, the team educated and performed a blower door test on the NYSERDA Weatherization Home to identify inefficiencies in the building envelope. The team provided thermal imagers for students to visually see and identify such inefficiencies and possible remedies.

The HVAC program faculty and staff is very thankful for the relationships established with many partners such as ISAAC Heating and Cooling who volunteer their time and efforts to engage with our student body. The program has an active advisory board that is always looking to move the program in real-world fashion with innovative practices that equip graduates for their career positions.
