Patrick Callan (English) and Nayda Pares-Kane (Sociology) participated in a four-month workshop series funded by a grant from the Freeman Foundation and sponsored by the Community College Humanities Association and the Hill Center for World Studies. The series was entitled "Modernity and East Asia."
New York University scholars from the East Asian Studies Department explored and shared their views on the problem of the modern in their specific areas of concentration. The workshop began in September and concluded with participant findings in December 2003.
