On October 25th, 2013, the MCC Mathematics Department hosted a symposium to open the lines of communication with local high schools in order to address the effects of student high school math backgrounds on placement into and subsequent success in college math courses. Fifty teachers, counselors and administrators were in attendance representing seventeen local high schools, four area colleges, the Youth and Justice Programs and BOCES. The keynote address, “More Than Just Math”, was given by
Mr. Arkee Allen, Assistant Principal of Student Mgmt. at the University Preparatory Charter School for Young Men. A panel discussion followed.
