Political Speech or Incitement to Riot ... Where is the line located?

Hosted by:  The Business/Economic Department and The PRISM Multicultural Center

With special guests:  Richard C. Wesley Judge; United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit  and Michael Wolford; Civil & Criminal Attorney; Bond, Schoeneck & King Law Firm

Facilitated by:  Judge Karen Morris: Professor, MCC Business/Economics Department

The events of Jan. 6 shocked a nation watching it unfold on television, twitter and other media. A pro-Trump mob battled police, broke into the U.S. Capitol, and sent members of Congress fleeing as lawmakers were counting Electoral College votes to confirm the presidential victory of Democrat Joe Biden. Now, five people are dead, including a U.S. Capitol Police officer.

Americans in general along with our representatives in government were disturbed, angered, and frightened by the attack on the halls of Congress and our democratic system of government.  In the months following these events we can serve our students by helping them separate facts from misinformation, and providing opportunities to express their emotions. This exciting panel discussion will help to do that, and clarify the underlying first Amendment issues.

Please join us for this exciting presentation.  Faculty, we encourage you to have your students zoom in and students please tell your friends
