Celebrate Scotland the Brave!

Today marks the anniversary of the Battle of Stirling Bridge (11 September 1297), a key moment in the First War for Scottish Independence from England. To commemorate the day, as well as the upcoming Scottish Independence referendum (18 September), please join MCC's Celtic Society for a F-R-E-E screening and discussion of the academy award-winning BRAVEHEART. The event takes place today at 6 p.m. in 12-125; light refreshments will be served.

A romanticized version of actual historical events, BRAVEHEART tells the story of "William Wallace [played by Mel Gibson], a bold Scotsman who uses the steel of his sword and the fire of his intellect to rally his countrymen to liberation from the English occupation of Scotland" (Source: DVD jacket).

If you cannot attend today's film, mark your calendar and join us on Thursday, 25 September for a screening and discussion of the bio-pic MICHAEL COLLINS, which stars Liam Neeson as the early 20th-Century Irish military and political leader.

Throughout the fall semester, you can catch screenings and discussions of a number of Celtic-related films. Each is free, is open to the community, and begins at 6 p.m. in 12-125.
