SUNY Seeks Interviewers for COVID-19 Contact Tracer Program

This announcement goes hand in hand with a General News announcement that appears today in both the employee and the student Tribune regarding efforts for contact tracing to help reopen businesses in New York and to restart the state economy after NY's PAUSE period. The following is a reproduction of a notice sent out from David Cantaffa, Associate Provost, Academic Programs, Planning, and Assessment, SUNY, to the Academic Programs listserve.

New York State is seeking immediate assistance from SUNY faculty and staff to help meet a pressing need related to COVID-19. I am reaching out to ask that today you to share this with faculty and staff on your campus to request that they contribute to this effort. This is not limited to particular disciplines, but those in health, social work, and human services fields will be particularly well-suited.

As part of a NYS effort to address COVID-19, SUNY is assembling a pool of contact tracers, community support specialists, and supervisors. These are all key positions that NYS needs to fill. At this point, NYS is starting to recruit people for contact tracer role. As part of this effort, all potential contact tracers will go through a screening process including an interview. This is where SUNY faculty and staff expertise and experience is needed, namely to conduct second-round interviews.

Each interviewer will be provided both the job description and some sample questions to ensure the candidates understand the role. We are aiming for 100 SUNY faculty and staff volunteers to serve as interviewers. The time commitment for each interviewer is 4-5 hours for 3-4 days. And, the interviews are expected to take place between May 11-17; therefore, immediate action is needed to sign up to become an interviewer.

If you are interested, please go to this link to fill in your contact information at: Contact Tracer Interviewer Form. We will provide all supporting materials.

If you have any questions, please contact Peter.Velz@suny.edu.

This is a great opportunity for faculty and staff to brush up on the interviewing skills! If you want to be a part of the effort to combat the disease and help us return to business as usual, I would encourage you to explore these opportunities.
