Today's the Day! Join us for Grammar Jeopardy!

The Writing Center College Hour Workshop “Grammar Jeopardy!”

Today, March 4, 2009
12:00 – 12:50 p.m.
Warshof Conference Center, Flynn Campus Center (Empire Room 3-209) on the Brighton Campus

Presenters:  Elizabeth Johnston, English/Philosophy, and Carl Silvio, English/Philosophy

Damon City Campus
Room 4057
Presenter:  Eileen Lanzafame, Transitional Studies

This fun and wildly popular interactive workshop is modeled after the game show, “Jeopardy.”  The trivia questions, however, focus on 5 common grammatical errors made by students.  Each category is composed of questions ranging from 100-500 points (in ascending order of difficulty).  Students attending the workshop will be divided into teams of four or five and take turns choosing categories and point values.  But be careful!  If you choose a question and answer it incorrectly, points will be deducted from your overall score and the questions will go to the next team.  The team to accumulate the most points wins not only enlightenment and glory, but prizes as well!

Hope to see you there!

 Mission Statement

The Writing Center’s purpose is to guide students through the writing process and to provide support for faculty who assign written work.  Tutoring sessions at the Center are interactive discussions that encourage students to make informed decisions about their writing.  The outcome of tutoring should be that the writer, not necessarily a specific piece of writing, will be changed.  Tutors will not write, re-write, or line-edit any portion of a student’s paper. Rather, they will assist with pre-writing, drafting, researching, revising, and editing.  Most importantly, the Center aims to build students’ confidence and improve their writing skills.
