New Program Helps Students Return to Complete Degrees, Certificates; Info Sessions Scheduled

Students whose debt to MCC prevented them from re-enrolling for the past three years or more can now resume their studies and defer payments on their debt until they complete their associate degree or certificate.

Return to Complete, MCC's new debt deferment program, is available for full- and part-time students looking to resume their studies as early as the spring 2019 semester. We estimate that approximately 7,000 students may be eligible for the program.

If you know a former student who may be interested, please encourage the student to register online (www.monroecc.edu/go/return) for an upcoming information session (see schedule below), or direct the student to Yolonda Steward (MCC Admissions) at (585) 685-6275 or return2complete@monroecc.edu. Information sessions are scheduled on:

  • Wednesday, November 7, 2018, 2:00-5:00 p.m., Flynn Campus Center Forum
  • Wednesday, December 5, 2018, 2:30-5:30 p.m., High Falls A & B
  • Saturday, January 12, 2019, 9 a.m.-noon, Flynn Campus Center Forum

To qualify for Return to Complete, students must have been previously enrolled in a degree or certificate program three or more years ago, show their ability to pay for the current and future semesters (including applicable financial aid programs), and maintain a grade point average of 2.0 or better. Students will have up to four years to complete their certificate or degree under the program before renewing payment on the past debt. The debt will not accrue interest while the student is in the program. Students begin paying on the outstanding debt upon completion of their degree or certificate program.

Additional supports, such as financial literacy education, are built into the program to ensure students successfully reengage with the college.

Please join us in welcoming back full- and part-time students who are ready to complete their education.
