Rosemary W. Mahoney, Retiree

The MCC family is saddened to learn that retiree Rosemary W. Mahoney (Mathematics) passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at her home in Brookline, Massachusetts. Assistant Professor Mahoney was predeceased by her brother, Walter, and is survived by her husband, John "Kevin" Mahoney, her four children, their spouses, and seven grandchildren. A funeral service was celebrated on January 3, 2020 in Brookline. An obituary is available online.

Assistant Professor Mahoney earned a master's degree in mathematics from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. and a bachelor of arts degree from Regis College in Weston, Massachusetts. When her husband took a job at Harris Beach & Wilcox law firm, the couple moved to Rochester, where they lived until 2002.

After teaching at the high school level, she became an instructor in MCC's Mathematics Department, teaching developmental mathematics, calculus and statistics courses. An energetic and enthusiastic educator, Assistant Professor Mahoney helped introduce computers to the classroom and volunteered to teach in MCC's new computer lab. She was promoted to assistant professor in 1994 in recognition of her outstanding dedication to student success and professionalism. She retired from MCC in 1999.
