Wellness Wednesday Week 6: Staying Socially Connected Through Exercise

Are you someone who has a difficult time talking about yourself or starting up a conversation with someone else without having a topic in mind to discuss? Many people have a hard time with these things. If so, maybe you would consider finding a colleague, fellow classmate, or friend, and asking them to go for a short walk? It is well known that having a common interest, such as exercise, can bring people together for a specific purpose and in turn, this can support social connection, conversation, and the building of friendships.

Exercising with another person can also be a great way to get that daily step goal in (and to make the time pass by faster while you’re approaching your goal). Exercise is more fun when we have others journeying alongside us and helping us hold ourselves accountable to our own goals.

Tonight is another one of our free, optional in-person training sessions at Rochester Running Company and it happens to be BRING A BUDDY NIGHT. Even if you haven’t been able to participate thus far, all are welcome to come out and join us this evening. Details are as follows:

Location: Rochester Running Company (RRC), located at 1387 Mt. Hope Ave., Rochester, NY 14620. RRC is conveniently located down the road from MCC’s Brighton Campus, in College Town. Please note that there is plenty of free parking behind RRC in a public lot located off of Celebration Drive.

Dates: Each Wednesday evening, August 11th through September 29th. We will be there, rain or shine!

Time: 6:10pm. We suggest arriving 10 minutes early to get checked in, use the facilities and poke around inside the store if desired, and say hello to the other program participants. The program will begin at 6:10pm out back behind the store. Please note that RRC also hosts a free weekly 3 mile fun run on Wednesdays nights, so expect to see those folks gathering for a group picture and taking off for their run right around 6pm.

Yours in community and health,

The Couch to 5K Wellness Program Planning Team
