Advocating for our Military Students

On behalf of the Military Advocacy Program, we welcome everyone back to MCC for a successful 2014-2015 academic year!

Please help us support our military students by sharing the attached information with them. Faculty, please remember not to single out you military students, or ask them to self-identify. The best approach is to simply share the information with the entire class, and the military students will respond in their own way, as best suits them.

The MAP’s ongoing academic mentoring, face-to-face mentoring, event support, social media outreach, and general advocacy is off and running for the year, but that is only part of the picture.

There are many groups on campus working diligently with our military students - you should have already seen the Tribune announcement from Veterans Services regarding their new GoVETS initiative for math and writing tutoring as well as news regarding the new Veterans Resource Center in the Leroy V. Good Library. You should also soon see announcements regarding reading groups, student club fundraisers, STARS, and more.

The MAP faculty and staff hope everyone at MCC will lend their energies and efforts to all such initiatives to make them as successful as possible.

As those in the local military community say, “One team, one fight!” Our students’ needs are best met when we all work together to support their academic and future success. Join the faculty and staff of the MAP as we continue to collaborate with our colleagues across campus to make this a fruitful academic year.
