This Week at the TCC: Flipped Classroom and Critical Thinking Beyond the Basics

The Teaching & Creativity Center has four great programs this week!

Workshop: “Is Flipping Right for Me?”

Monday, November 18 (12-12:50pm; Brighton TCC: 12-201) -- facilitated by Kara Tierney (Chemistry & Geosciences) and Neeta Primo (Mathematics)

Given the very high levels of interest in our Faculty Inquiry Group on the Flipped Classroom, we are hosting workshops to introduce faculty to the flipped classroom.  This session is geared to you, to help you decide if the flipping model would be appropriate for your classroom.  Come prepared to share your questions and ideas.

Conversation: “Critical Thinking: Beyond the Basics”

Wednesday, November 20 (12-12:50pm; Damon TCC: 5-091) – facilitated by Michelle Parker (Psychology) & Joe Sturnick (Law & Criminal Justice)

Wednesday, November 20 (12-12:50pm; Brighton TCC: 12-201) – facilitated by Jessica Barone & Amanda Colosimo (Chemistry & Geosciences)

Thursday, November 21 (3:30-4:30pm; Brighton TCC: 12-201) – facilitated by Amanda Colosimo (Chemistry & Geosciences)

This week’s Conversations will draw on Chapter 5 of “Teaching for Critical Thinking” by Stephen Brookfield. This session is geared to those who already have been engaged in the critical thinking topic and want to dig a bit deeper.  We will focus on using more advanced techniques such as crisis decision simulation, critical debate, exemplars and flaws, quotes to affirm and challenge.   We welcome all full-time and part-time faculty to join us, whether or not you have been reading the book.
