Human Anatomy and Physiology Course Redesign - ITC Audioconference

MCC will host the Instructional Technology Council's professional development audioconference entitled, "Human Anatomy and Physiology Course Redesign," on Tuesday, September 26 from 2:00-3:00pm in the Board Lounge. The presenters are: Amiee Wagner, Instructor, and J. Keith Fowlkes, Instructional Designer, Central Ohio Technical College.
Central Ohio Technical College received grant funds from the Ohio Learning Network to redesign its Human Anatomy and Physiology (HAP) course to a blended format. Students complete all traditional lecture and laboratory activities online; in class (two hours per week), students work on group projects that ultimately result in the production of a comprehensive portfolio. The group projects were designed to build critical thinking, effective writing, and communication skills. While the average grades in the traditional and redesigned HAP courses have remained unchanged, the DFW (drop fail withdrawal) rates have been dramatically reduced (on average, 30 percent traditional, 8 percent redesigned).

We would like to share (1) the redesign process used by Central Ohio Technical College; (2) the pros and cons of developing a blended course; (3) how our students complete laboratory activities online; and (4) the methods we used to engage students in the active learning process.
