Hits for Linda a huge success!

On Sunday, September 1st, about 100 family, friends and co-workers of Linda Curran, our MCC Records Clerk who passed away April 7th, came out to celebrate her life and her legacy and to cheer on her one of her favorite teams, the Red Wings!  The evening was a success all around: The Red Wings have made the playoffs and the fundraiser “Hits For Linda” raised $1,250 toward the Linda Curran Scholarship for Student Aides.

We are trying to help Linda’s family make this an endowed scholarship and are asking for your support with our next fundraiser “Laps for Linda” in the MCC 5K Walk/Run for Scholarships on September 21st.

Donating or registering to join the team is easy! Just click on the link below:

Linda had a huge impact on everyone she came in contact with but especially our student aides. Here is a reflection Carlos Rodriguez (former MCC student, Records and Registration Student Aide and now pilot with JetBlue) shared upon hearing of Linda’s passing:

“Linda was one of the greatest people I ever came to know growing up in the United States. Being a boy who grew up in Cuba, the opportunities I had in the United States were great and Linda made sure I achieved all that my life had in front of me. She pushed me academically and in regards to my flying encouraged the opportunity to be what I wanted to be in life, a pilot.

"Together we would take numerous trips, mainly to the southern tier of NY, Niagara Falls and once to Detroit to take in a baseball game.  Whenever I wanted to fly she was always ready for an adventure to go. If she came with me she always insisted on paying for the airplane rental, this was huge for me because training to be a pilot was very expensive.  Her sense of adventure was great, I even made her float one time (experienced a 0G (zero gravity) all the dust from the plane came up and we just laughed like a bunch of kids.

"Linda was the one person who understood my sense of humor, but she wouldn't hesitate to tell me if I was out of line. Linda's impact on my life was great. She was my dear friend; she was honest, caring, kind and generous. I looked up to her and all the years that I lived away from Rochester I made sure I visited her when I was back in town.   She encompassed all the qualities in her life that I strive to embody. Clearly without having known Linda I may not be where I am at today....a pilot with a major airline. Thank you Linda!!!!” –Carlos Rodriquez
