MCC Featured in MDRC Brief on Equity in Community College CTE Programs

MDRC, a NYC-based research group, released a study in April 2020 titled “Voices From the Field: How Community Colleges Are Advancing Equity in Career and Technical Education.” MCC was featured in this study, along with other institutions across the country, to draw attention to how community colleges are advancing equity for diverse students, specifically through CTE programs and the economic pathways they provide by directly linking students through skill acquisition into the workplace.

The brief highlights how non-traditional scheduling, assessment, accelerated cohorts, and fast-track programming are recommended design features for students. MCC provides these design features through our Precision Machining Certificate, Medical Office Assistant Certificate, Middle Skills Bridge Program, and offsite Welding fabrication courses. Another area of focus within the brief is the use of recruiters focused on recruitment and support of students in the inner city, which EDIWS provides through Perkins-funded staff.
