Mr. Simonet, a French actor, screenwriter and director, will be in Rochester to participate in the Rochester International Film Festival.  He has agreed to screen his film at MCC, sharing cultural aspects of his work and his experiences as a filmmaker. Mr. Simonet is the son of actor and producer Jacques Perrin. He began his career in 1997 in the mini-series “The Pursuit of Wind.” A year later he joined his father as a photographer to film the documentary “Winged Migration.” In 2000, he was offered his first film role in “Nightcap.” His filmography includes “Ocean’s Twelve” in 2004, “Glory” in 2006 and “Deep in the Woods” in 2011.

In addition to his acting, Mathieu Simonet is also active as a film director. In 2004, he directed his first short film “The Red Notebook,” adapted from a short story. Six years later, he directed his second film “Prunelle et Mélodie.” This film received the Best Film award in the Festival of Nations at Ebensee (Austria) in 2011. It tells the story of two women, Prunelle, who is blind, and Mélodie, who is deaf. They become friends in an education center and, together, they develop a system to communicate with each other.

This event is sponsored by the Interdisciplinary Programs Division, the Liberal Arts Division, the VAPA Department and the Office of Student Life and Leadership Development.
