Reminder - Power shutdowns Friday and Saturday

Just a reminder- There will be two power shutdowns this week.

On Friday November 24, 2006 the power to the residence halls only will be shut down for the day starting at 8:00 AM and lasting up until 4:00 PM. Resident students should plan accordingly for this outage.

On Saturday November 25, 2006 the power to the entire Brighton Campus - including the residence halls again, will be intermittently shut off for testing between the hours of 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM.  The present schedule calls for a total of four tests to be conducted, two of which will result in campus power outages.

Among other things, the outages will be a test to determine how fast power can be restored with the cogeneration system. It is expected that power will be restored each time in less than 20 minutes. Stationary Engineers will be on duty making rounds at the conclusion of the tests to ensure that known equipment-restart-problems are looked at and addressed.

Some things to note:

Turn off all computers and sensitive electronic equipment prior to leaving for the Thanksgiving break. This will be an instantaneous shut down and restart which can be hard on electric and electronic devices. Please protect your equipment.

The weather forecast is predicted to be in the 40 - 50 degree range during the tests. This should not cause the buildings to cool down appreciably during the tests.

The computer network will be down during the testing.

If you have sensitive equipment that should be checked after the shutdown, please contact me so that it can be added to our list.

Have a happy Thanksgiving and thank you in advance for your understanding.
