Faculty and the Library - Collection Development

A community effort is required to build a good library collection!  We librarians can locate some wonderful resources, but it’s the faculty input that ensures that the appropriateness of those resources fit the needs of MCC’s ever-evolving curriculum.  Only the faculty can match the students they teach with the resources the library can provide.

Building a library collection has a beginning, but there can never be an ending.  Just as a living organism grows and adapts itself to its surroundings and environment, a library collection is ever changing, ever adapting itself to the needs of its user population.  It’s fairly simple to identify and withdraw materials that no longer serve a purpose, but what about identifying and adding materials that not only meet a need but anticipate one as well?  Not so simple!

Please take a look at your assignments, course information sheet, bibliographies and let us know how we can craft the library collection to best supplement your needs.  Then forward those suggestions to us via your department library liaison or directly to Rick Squires, Collection Development Librarian (<mailto:rsquires@monroecc.edu>) or complete the
online form.
