Presenting the 14th Annual Model United Nations Program

WE’RE BACK……….PRESENTING THE 14TH ANNUAL MCC MODEL UNITED NATIONS PROGRAM

Monroe Community College’s 14th annual Model United Nations Program is underway, offering students experiential learning opportunities that challenge; inspire all of a student’s mental and intellectual skills. True to the mission of the college, Model UN engages students in a simulation that closely parallels the “real” United Nations. Our students role-play as diplomats representing a nation or NGO in a simulated session of an (committee) of the United Nations, such as the Security Council or the General Assembly. Participants research a country, take on roles as diplomats, investigate international issues, debate, deliberate, consult, and then develop solutions to world problems.

You as an MCC student have a unique opportunity to make a difference in your life and in the world.  In Model UN you will be challenged to think out of the box, make critical decisions on your own and with your team.  More importantly, you see and think from a different perspective (sort of like putting you into someone else’s shoes).  You will for a short time period become a diplomat of another country.  Students will:

·       Travel to New York and participate in the one of the world’s largest Model UN Conference

·       Will interact and role play with over 5,000 students from 200 universities and colleges for one week

·       Become accountable for their own opinions and actions

·       Understand global perspectives and real world issues

·       Work in a team environment and gain valuable leadership skills

You don’t want to pass this up.  Students come to an informational session and learn more.  What have you got to lose?  Faculty, identify and encourage your students to apply to the program.  You know the students who stand out and have the potential to become real leaders.

Pick up a brochure at in the Office of Student Life and Leadership Development (3-126) or go on the web and "https://www.monroecc.edu/go/modelun".

Change yourself and you’ll change the world.
