Rediscovering Frederick Douglass

As we celebrate International Education Week, we would be a huge mistake if we did not honor some of our Black heroes that not only made America great but inspired those around the world. Therefore we honor Frederick Douglass. Please join us in a film screening and discussion with Educator, Delores Jackson Radney, and Co-Producers and Co-authors, William Schwappacher and Tiana Stephens.

Did you know:

* Frederick Douglass was the most photographed man of the 19th century.

* He served under five presidents. He served in several federal positions by Rutherford B. Hayes in 1877, and Presidents Garfield, Arthur, Cleveland and Benjamin Harrison over time.

* As part of the Equal Rights Party ticket in 1872, Douglass was nominated as a Vice President candidate with Victoria Woodhull as the Presidential candidate.

* He basically took his name from a poem. Douglass was born Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey, but after escaping slavery, Douglass used assumed names to avoid detection. A friend suggested a new name (Douglass), a character in Sir Walter Scott's poem "The Lady of the Lake."
