Rochester Gas & Electric Safety Training

The Homeland Security Management Institute at Monroe Community College, in conjunction with the Monroe County Office of Emergency Management and Rochester Gas & Electric, is pleased to offer: “Electrical and Natural Gas Safety Training” on Wednesday, May 15th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the RG&E Operations Center – 1300 Scottsville Road. This training is free and open to the public.

Scheduled Rochester Gas & Electric activities include:

1.    "Live Line" electricity demonstrations review common misconceptions and myths concerning power lines and dealing with electricity in a safe manner. Common myths include: “Vehicles tires are electrical insulators,” “Power lines are insulated,” “Only high voltage is dangerous,” “When a wire falls to the ground it automatically shuts off," “When a live wire falls it makes sparks,” “Wood is an insulator,” “Household rubber gloves or rubber soled shoes insulate,” and many others. In addition to the live demonstrations there is ample opportunity to address questions from the audience.

2.    “Call Before You Dig” - Whether you're a contractor or a homeowner doing an outdoor project, having underground utilities marked is essential to protect yourself and others from injury and prevent damage to underground utility lines. Contact <<
https://www.digsafelynewyork.com/>> at 811 or 1.800.962.7962 at least 2 working days (not counting the day you call) but not more than 10 working days before you plan to start your project. Digging can be dangerous and costly if you don't have underground facilities marked before you start.

3.    “Natural Gas Emergency Response” training and demonstrations identify hazardous situations involving natural gas, propane and carbon monoxide. Learn from the experts regarding the proper actions to follow to stay safe.

Pre-registration is required as we have 100 seats available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Registration closes when the seats are filled.  Attached please find the registration form.  ASL Interpreting services will be provided as necessary. We look forward to seeing you on May 15th.
