MCC alumni Maureen W. Chisholm, Salva Dut, Ronald K. Fox and John C. Salamone will be inducted into the MCC Alumni Hall of Fame at the Monroe Community College Foundation’s 19th annual Salute of Excellence dinner on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center. The alumni were selected for their professional success, service to the community and exhibited support of MCC and/or the MCC Foundation.
Recently sworn in as Fairport’s new police chief, Chisholm returned to law enforcement after three years as the executive director of the Crisis Nursery of Greater Rochester, a non-profit organization which provides a safe haven for children in crisis. She previously served the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office for 27 years, retiring in 2006 with the rank of major; she remains the highest ranking woman in the history of the sheriff’s office. Chisholm has served as a member of the Multidisciplinary Child Abuse Task Force, Domestic Violence Consortium, Rape Crisis Advisory Board and Rochester Area Crime Stoppers. In 2007 she was selected as the New York State Senate Woman of Distinction, an award celebrating her contributions to the state. Chisholm graduated from MCC’s Law and Criminal Justice program with an associate in applied science degree in police science in 1978.
Dut is the founder and president of Water for Sudan, Inc., a not-for-profit organization, which drills wells in Sudan for people who walk hours a day for water. As one of the so-called Sudanese “Lost Boys,” Dut survived his country’s civil war by walking across the harsh wilderness of Africa in search of refugee camps. He came to America in 1996 where he earned his GED before attending MCC. Dut returned to Africa and realized the impact unclean drinking water was having on his family and soon after launched Water for Sudan, which has improved the quality of life for 150,000 people in Southern Sudan through the building of fresh water wells. He tutors refugee children at the Sudanese Learning Center and is a member of the Penfield Rotary Club. Dut graduated from MCC in 2000 with an associate’s degree in business administration/economics. He earned a bachelor’s degree in international business from the SUNY College at Brockport in 2007.
Fox is the executive director of the Open Door Mission, Inc. of Rochester, a not-for-profit ministry focused on meeting the physical and spiritual needs of the needy in the community. For the past 26 years, Fox has helped to restore hope in people’s lives through the mission. The Open Door Mission provides food and an emergency overnight (temporary stay) program, a soup kitchen which daily serves homeless individuals as well as low income families, and a clothing donation and distribution program. Fox served as past president of FOODLINK, Inc. and as agency coordinator for the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts Scouting for Food effort. He remains connected to MCC students through the MCC Human Services internship program at MCC’s Damon City Campus. Fox earned his associate’s degree in food service from MCC in 1984.
Salamone is the executive director of the Chief Human Capital Officers Council, U.S. Office of Personnel Management, in Washington, D.C. In 2006, he was appointed in the Administration of President George W. Bush to manage an interagency council of the federal government’s top 25 human resource executives. In this role, Salamone advises and coordinates human resource activities that impact the federal government’s 1.8 million workers. Salamone is responsible for directing the daily operations of the Council and serving as a policy and strategic planning advisor to the chairman His community involvement includes serving on the national board of Mended Hearts, Inc., volunteer communications director for the Fairfax County Republican Committee and as a soccer coach. Salamone earned his master of public administration degree from George Mason University (Fairfax, Va.) in 1998 and his bachelor of arts degree in sociology from SUNY Oswego in 1991. He graduated with distinction from MCC in 1989 with an associate of science degree in liberal arts in 1989.
The MCC Alumni Hall of Fame was established in 1992 to honor outstanding MCC alumni. There are currently 59 members.
Tickets for the Salute to Excellence dinner are $100 per person; $75 MCC faculty, staff and students. The event will begin with a reception at 5:30 pm at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center, 123 East Main St., Rochester.
