Match Making Via Email; Bring on the Jell-O!

In an ideal world I would come in on Tuesday morning and sit and stare out my window for eight hours and then go home. I’m not sure if I could sustain an eight hour stare but I’d like to try. My current record is six minutes. People DO notice but assume I am ‘creating’ because I put a page of writing up on my computer and try to look ‘deep’. I have a gorgeous and interesting view out my window with the combination of awesome landscaping—flowers, trees, bushes, it’s wonderful—and the front ramp where everyone comes into the building and fire trucks, ambulances and police cars gather on “special” occasions.  I think it’s one of the best windows on campus and it deserves more attention than I am able to give it.

I know that Tuesday will be a busy day for the entire college. As you can imagine, Registration and Records will be zoo-like for the entire week. (I think it was during the first week of fall classes that we were able to capture the giraffe whose skeleton now resides in building 7!) Our windows are busy and so are our phones. In the interest of efficiency and good mental health, please email me with your room questions/requests rather than call me or, heaven forbid, attempt to get into the R&R Office! Email will be less frustrating for you and more efficient for me.

If all the room requests arrive in the same format it is easier for me to match up people who can exchange rooms and help each other out. It’s like a huge card game and I shuffle the email requests around trying to find matches. Phone calls and in person visits mean the notes for your requests are in a different format and a different location on my desk and therefore don’t get involved in the room exchange shuffle. With no open classrooms available during prime time shuffling is the only way to accomplish a room switch.

Here is what you should include in your email so I can work on your room request:

ENG 101 765 (CRN 12623) currently residing in 6-341 seeks someone currently in a smart classroom who isn’t using the technology for a classroom switch and possibly friendship. Loves rainy walks in K Lot, bungee jumping into Jell-O in the Brighton Room, tracking wild animals in front of R&R, and attempting to read a Banner report without a magnifying glass.

The essential information is the course number and what kind of room you need. Other enticing information is optional. Please email me with your needs and I’ll do my best. Good luck with the new semester. And be careful on the floors in the Brighton Room!
