All New York Academic Team

Four MCC students have been named to the All New York Academic Team, a recognition given by the ALL USA Community and Junior College Academic Team, which honors the country’s top associate degree-seeking students.

Deborah Blonsky has been named as a first member, along with nine other students across the state, and will receive a tuition scholarship for the next two years to a SUNY university or college. Susan Wolbert, majoring in elementary education, and Sypraseuth Vandy, majoring in computer science, were named to the second team and Jo-Ann Torres, majoring in political science, to the third team. Wolbert and Torres attend classes on the Damon City Campus.

To be named to the team, students must demonstrate intellectual rigor in their course of study, show academic growth, and use their two-year college education to better themselves, their schools and their communities. The centerpiece of the nomination is a 500-word essay that describes the student’s most significant endeavor, while attending community college, that required their academic, intellectual and/or leadership skills to benefit the school, community or society in general. MCC selects two students each from Brighton and Damon City campuses to compete against students from more than 1,200 community colleges across the nation.

Students will be honored at a luncheon in Albany, State University Plaza on March 28.
